Not necessarily full-screen textures (though there is that) but stuff that you can almost feel when you see it on the screen.

Rich Tatum > Brick o' Jumbo Shrimp
My son, A.J. was strolling (jumping, hopping, skipping, weaving -- he's very active) out of the church door a few Sundays ago when he got interested in the patterns on some nearby bricks. He asked me to take some pictures because, he was sure, these were shrimp that had been fossilized in brick.

I wasn't sure about that, I told him, guessing that many brick molds have bits of cloth or stone built into the mold patter to give the bricks random texture. It makes for more "interesting" walls. (Hence, his own fascination!)

This looks like it might be some shrimp-like curl of leather or something, but it does look amazingly like a shrimp. Who am I to say?

If anyone can identify this, feel free!

Rich Tatum > Under my Hand
This is the pebbled grip on top of the stick that shifts my car into "Drive."

I tell you, I really like to find stuff within arm's reach to photograph. Within arm's reach. Really.

Rich Tatum > The view from the top of my head.
Okay, so if you're supposed to wear hats to keep the sun off of your head, why is there so much light coming through the darn thing?

Rich Tatum > Climbing to the light.
If I were a bug, and if I were climbing the wall of a restroom somewhere in Muskegon, it would look something like this. I think.

Rich Tatum > Fortress of Illumination
Walking under a fluorescent light panel at church one Sunday, I reached up with my camera, snapped an shot, and moved along.

Guerilla art.

Rich Tatum > Star (fake) Light (not fake)
Some some post-birthday decorative tinsel draped around a light. The tinsel is gone now. So is the light. But, alas, my photo remains!

Rich Tatum > Panel of Distinction
I was walking by the corner of a building one evening when I noticed that the wooden siding was uniformely cracked, or crazed. I thought I might as well document it. Who knows when I'll need a simple texture like this?

Rich Tatum > Moss. (Or, photography for the lazy.)
Sitting in a recliner, fiddling with my camera, I look around. what do I see? A plant no more than two feet fromme. And, even better, some tangly, twisty moss in the pot.

Before the observation has even been completed, I have already taken the shot.

I am supremely lazy.

Rich Tatum > Threebar
Just some exposed rebar set in old concrete on a bridge in a park nearby. The photo actually turned out uninteresting. Strangely, the treatment to black and white relieved its tediousness somewhat. Now it's almost ... pretty!
