Just prior to lighting up the candles on AJ's birthday cake at his seventh birthday party, his aunt Kerrin struck a pose. I obliged by striking the shutter release.

Looks like she'd be right at home in a smoky Paris café.

For this shot, I post-processed it to separate Kerrin from the kitchen background so I could blur it and desaturate it a bit more. I like how it came out.

Rich Tatum > Unassembled Snowmen For Sale
Since my wife and I moved to Muskegon a couple months ago (December 2007) it seems like it has snowed endlessly. I have heard, in fact, that this year's run of snow is one of the heaviest they've had in a long time, and that the number of cold days is far colder than normal.

I feel like I'm living in a snow-globe.

I miss the desert.

This photo was scanned out of the Mukegon Chronicle's newspaper. My wife thought it summed up my attitude and vexation quite nicely. So, I serve it up for your enjoyment as well!

Rich Tatum > Rev. DMD - Mega-Church Leadership Banquet
Every year, this Tennessee mega-church hosts a dinner to express appreciation to its lay leaders, volunteers, and staff leaders. This year there were over 700 seats filled. That's more leaders than most churches have in attendance. Wow. Blew my mind.

This year DMD opened his discussion with a note on Willow Creek's recent admission that their seeker-sensitive model has essentially failed. It was a sobering reminder that biblical discipleship is critical in forming disciples.

Rich Tatum > Accident in Kentucky: Emergency Response Deux
More emergency vehicles, a passing motorist, and my blurry car in the corner.

------------------------------------------------------------

On my way to my new job, driving from Illinois to Tennessee, I was minding my own business on Highway 65 a bit south of Louisville. I was going about 65 miles per hour (I'd seen a lot of deer lying by the highway, so I was going about five miles below the speed limit) when I suddently heard a braking sound behind me, lights flashed in my rearview mirror, I heard a great "bang!" and suddenly my world started spinning. As my car spun around 180 degrees, I saw a truck in my windshield literally off the road, headlights askew. Another 180 degrees and I saw the highway in front of me, and I'm trying to regain control Another 180 degrees and I saw the truck behind me vanish over the guardrail on the south-bound side of the highway. Finally, I saw road again, and thinking only of not getting hit by other traffic, I finally managed to control my car and I pulled onto the grass media. Shut the motor down (it was still running!) moved my limbs and head to make sure I wasn't injured, and gathered my wits. I finally found my flashlight on the floor of the car, unbuckled and headed out across the highway to check on the truck that had disappeared over the roadside. I worred that I'd find something really horrible.

I can't really describe the relief I felt when I got to the truck and found two people climbing out, dazed, but whole. Everybody had seatbelts on, and nobody was injured.

Thank God!

The police report exonerated me.

I managed to make it to Nashville the next day when the Executive Pastor drove up to bring me in.

What a ride. Any accident you can walk away from is a good one. This was a good accident.

Rich Tatum > Accident in Kentucky: The Other Guy's Vehicle
The truck that hit me from behind. This vehicle spun out, went over the guardrail, and actually flipped. I'm stunned everybody walked away from it. The passenger reported that when it came to rest, everybody was dangling from their seatbelts. Scary!

Air ;^* (Kiss)
Just prior to lighting up the candles on AJ's birthday cake at his seventh birthday party, his aunt Kerrin struck a pose. I obliged by striking the shutter release.

Looks like she'd be right at home in a smoky Paris café.

For this shot, I post-processed it to separate Kerrin from the kitchen background so I could blur it and desaturate it a bit more. I like how it came out.
